The CMEEC Solar Gardens, totaling approximately 15 MW across seven sites located in Municipal Electric Utility (MEU) territories, generate clean, renewable energy. This project was developed under long-term power purchase agreements signed in 2014 and became fully operational by 2017. The portfolio features nearly 57,000 solar panels installed across a diverse mix of sites, including former landfills, open land, and areas adjacent to existing infrastructure.
These projects generate locally sourced, renewable energy that supports our MEUs’ energy portfolios while enhancing overall system reliability and resiliency. By producing power close to where it is used, these solar facilities reduce reliance on wholesale market purchases and strengthen the regional grid. Some of our solar gardens were equipped with onsite energy storage systems, where solar panels charge batteries at a low cost for later use during periods of high load demand.
